Joyau\u00a0de l\u2019architecture gothique, elle fut\u00a0\u00e9difi\u00e9e entre 1273 et 1281 et reste le\u00a0seul t\u00e9moin important d\u2019une architecture\u00a0ant\u00e9rieure \u00e0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e des\u00a0papes \u00e0 Avignon.<br \/>\nEn 1307, Cl\u00e9ment V, premier pape\u00a0venu en Avignon, abolit l\u2019ordre des\u00a0Templiers sur demande de Philippe\u00a0le Bel, roi de France. Il l\u2019appellera\u00a0l\u2019h\u00f4tel du Louvre. Tr\u00e8s proche du\u00a0courant litt\u00e9raire proven\u00e7al appel\u00e9\u00a0le F\u00e9librige, Il y accueillera ses\u00a0plus illustres repr\u00e9sentants, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric\u00a0Mistral, Th\u00e9odore Aubanel et\u00a0Joseph Roumanille. Ceux-ci, feront\u00a0de l\u2019h\u00f4tel du Louvre leur cercle de\u00a0r\u00e9union.
